Most Anticipated Adaptations for 2025 - She Reads (2024)

The readers got some seriously amazing book-to-screen adaptations in 2024. There were blockbuster hits, like Dune Part 2, some spicey romances like The Idea of You starring Anne Hathaway and Colleen Hoover’s It Ends with Us, and musical masterpieces like Wicked. Now we’re ready to ramp up for the upcoming year of big screen blockbusters, small screen binges and everything in between. These are the book-to-screen adaptations we’re most looking forward to in 2025.

Mayfair Witches Season 2 by Anne Rice (1/5)

Rowan is a brilliant neurosurgeon with powers and abilities she does not understand. Unbeknownst to her, she comes from a long and ancient line of witches, each one haunted by a being called Lasher. She is on the hunt to learn more about her lineage and how to overcome Lasher’s spell, something witches haven’t been able to do for generations. Season two will star Alexandria Daddario as Rowan and Jack Huston as Lasher who, in this season, is on the hunt for Mayfair witches, killing them for his wicked schemes, and it is up to Rowan to find out why.

A Little Sacrifice by Andrzej Sapkowski (2/11)

This short companion story to the beloved Witcher series will release as an animated film by Netflix in February, 2025. The Witcher: Siren’s of The Deep follows Sapkowski’s short story, A Little Sacrifice, where Geralt further explores The Continent and uncovers attacks against a small seaside village. He must find out who is attacking the village and stop them before a war starts between the mere-people in the village and land-dwellers like Geralt.

Crownover’s novel is coming out as a movie under the name Marked Men, a story that follows the budding romance between Shaw and Rule, who couldn’t be more different. Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy by Helen Fielding (2/14)

The Monkey by Stephen King (2/21)

He is untrained and loose, willing to do anything to right this wrong.

Wildwood by Colin Meloy (4/11)

This movie is based on the How to Train Your Dragon children’s books by Cressida Cowell and will highlight the funny and heartwarming moments of the original story.

Wheel of Time Season 3 by Robert Jordan

Known for its complex and immersive fantasy world, fans will likely be able to watch the next season of Wheel of Time in 2025. While the filming wrapped in 2022, we are still waiting for a release date, which makes sense considering all the post-production an epic fantasy show of this level takes. It likely won’t come to Amazon Prime Video until next year, 2025. Season three will follow the plot established in Robert Jordan’s fourth book in the series, The Shadow Rising. On her journey through the list, she will also be on a journey with her heart, discovering new romances while she finds out who she wants to be.

The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah (Early 2025)

Set to star the Fanning sisters, The Nightingale adaptation will be Elle and Dakota’s first project together in over twenty years. Watch as two sisters fight for survival in Nazi-occupied France during the Second World War. One is a mother and teacher who wants to protect her family by keeping a low profile, and the other decides to fight against the Nazis in the French resistance, causing rising tensions between her and her sister. This film has been in production since TriStar Pictures acquired the filming rights in 2015. After two directors left the film, Melanie Laurent took on the role, and with the ten-year mark looming, we keep our fingers crossed that this adaptation will be released sometime in early 2025.

The Twits by Roald Dahl (Mid 2025)

Roald Dahl’s The Twits is being adapted into an animated feature film by Netflix. Slated to release in 2025 under the direction of Phil Johnston, who was behind Pixar’s Ralph Breaks the Internet, says The Twits was his favorite Dahl novel growing up. The Twits are the meanest and nastiest couple in the world, so it makes sense that they would own the most dangerous and disgusting amusement park, Twitlandia. But when the two quickly rise to power in the town, two orphans and a team of magical talking animals must stop them from turning the town into a mess worse than the Twits themselves.

The Vampire Lestat is the sequel to Rice’s famous novel Interview with the Vampire. The first two seasons of this adaptation covered the events of the first book, season two ending in Claudine’s tragic death in Paris. Season three, set to stream on AMC+ alongside the first two seasons, will follow Lestat and his departure into a rockstar life. This opens the plot for a lot more fun for Lestat, whose backstory we do not have all the details on, but hopefully, we’ll get them very soon in this 2025 show.

Outlander Blood of My Blood by Diana Gabaldon (Late 2025)

Outlander Blood of My Blood will be a prequel to the long-running and deeply loved drama series Outlander. While there is no book for Blood of My Blood like there is for the rest of the Outlander TV series, theauthor of Outlander Diana Gabaldon, is a producer for the new prequel show. This adaptation will bring viewers not one, but two love stories set in different timelines. One follows the parents of the Scottish soldier, Jamie, in the 18th century, and the other follows Claire’s parents during WWI in England. This season will have everything people love about Outlander, time jumps, chemistry, and a fight for love with all new faces and some returning characters as younger versions of themselves.

The Salt Path by Raynor Winn

Marching Powder: A True Story of Friendship, Cocaine, and South America’s Strangest Jail by Rusty Young

The second season of My Life with the Walter Boys will be dropping on Netflix sometime in 2025. This season, Jackie returns to the Walter’s ranch after a summer in New York. Trust by Hernan Diaz

Trust will be adapted into a limited streaming series sometime in the next couple of years and Kate Winslet is set to produce. The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly

After three successful seasons, audiences can’t wait for The Lincoln Lawyer‘s fourth season, which left viewers on an insane cliffhanger. The Last of Us Season 2

The first season of The Last of Us was a huge success that broke HBO streaming records, and viewers expect nothing less in season two. Based on a video game of the same name, The Last of Us is set twenty years after a zombie outbreak destroyed civilization and follows Joel and Ellie’s journey for survival. In season two, we will see some new faces including Catherine O’Hara, Danny Ramirez, and Jeffery Wright, who was a voice actor in the video game. Season two is sure to be filled with as many thrills as season one, picking up the story five years after the events of season one, with Joel and Ellie living in Wyoming.

Virgin River Season 7 by Robyn Carr

Season six of Virgin River is set to come out on December 19, 2024, meaning season seven will probably come out in late 2025. In season six we can expect to see Preacher and Kaia’s relationship continue to blossom, Lizzie’s pregnancy and new baby, Dan’s misdeeds and consequences of his shadiness, and a wedding for Mel and Jack. With so much happening in season six, we hope season seven will be able to deliver just as well with this beloved story.

Children of Blood and Bone is an epic fantasy story that will likely be released in theaters in the next year or so. The author and producer, Tomi Adeyemi, is staying true to the stories and people that inspired her novel by holding an open casting call in Nigeria to help support young actors who know the folktales used in the novel like the back of their hand. While we cannot wait to meet some new faces, we are inclined to agree with Adeyemi’s dream casting of Idris Elba as King Saran.

Pop princess Sabrina Carpenter may be gracing the big screen next year in a new adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. Splinter Cell: Deathwatch

Netflix will work with Ubisoft Film and Television to bring gamers a new story from the video game, Splinter Cell: Deathwatch. Liev Schreiber from X-Men Origins and the Scream movies will voice Sam Fischer, a black ops agent working for the Fourth Echelon, the most dangerous and deadly division of the special operative and counterterrorism team led and ordered by the President alone. This is set up to be a two-season animated series with each season making up about eight episodes, typical for a Netflix animated series, and it will ideally come out sometime in 2025.

The Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton

This adorable children’s book will be adapted into a feature film to reach the hearts of both kids and adults as they travel together with The Magical Faraway Tree. When a family moves to a new home, their kids find a magic tree that takes them on wild adventures that bring the family closer together. Andrew Garfield and Rebecca Ferguson have been associated with the project, but casting has not been confirmed. Even without confirmation, we know they would do a wonderful job in this film we hope to see in 2025.
